Members who have not yet declared their qualifications, expertise and duty station now have until Thursday 31 December 2026. It takes about seven minutes.
Lusaka, 5 November 2026
The Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ) has extended the closing date of the Member Expertise Declaration 2026 from 31 October to Thursday 31 December 2026. The declaration is building, for the first time, a national map of where Zambia’s veterinary surgeons and para-professionals work and the expertise they hold.
The response so far has been encouraging. 148 members have declared, from 47 of Zambia’s 116 districts and all ten provinces. The extension gives the rest of the profession, and especially colleagues serving in the districts, the time to add their skills to the national picture.
Declarations close inThursday 31 December 2026
Where the map still has gaps
- Half of all declarations (75 of 148) come from Lusaka Province, while Eastern, Luapula and Muchinga have three each.
- 69 districts have no declaration at all. A blank district on the map means we have not heard from its professionals, not that no one serves it.
- So far 96 veterinary surgeons and 50 para-professionals have declared. Para-professionals are the backbone of field services, and the map is incomplete without them.
Why your declaration matters
- Advising Government. The Veterinary and Veterinary Para-professions Act No. 45 of 2010 mandates the Association to advise Government. When we engage the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on staffing, postings and investment, evidence of where expertise exists, and where it is missing, carries far more weight than estimates.
- Supporting the profession. The map will direct regional continuing professional development under Priority 4 of the VAZ Strategic Plan 2026-2030 to where it is most needed, and will connect colleagues for referrals and mentoring.
- Serving the public and the Grow Zambia Agenda. Farmers, livestock keepers and pet owners will be able to find the right professional near them. The 10-10-5-3-3-1-1-1 Grow Zambia Agenda targets US$1 billion a year from beef exports, and that depends on controlling animal diseases with the right professionals in the right places.
Three ways to declare
Your information is handled under the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021. We record your duty station only, never your home address. Public maps show numbers only, and your name appears in the members-only directory only if you agree.
Please complete your declaration before 31 December, and share this notice with colleagues in your district, especially those who have not yet declared.
